Watering Ban - Began 9/2/26
The Minnesota DNR has determined that the state is currently in a drought warning phase. The DNR’s Statewide Drought Plan provides a framework for preparing for and responding to droughts to minimize conflicts and negative impacts on Minnesota's natural resources and economy. According to the plan, the City of Wyoming must implement water use reduction actions with a goal of reducing water use to 50% above January levels.
Wyoming's daily usage is currently at 630,000 gallons. To abide by DNR's plan, it is imperative that our water usage decreases to 415,000 gallons per day. A city-wide lawn sprinkling ban is the best way to reduce our water usage by 215,000 gallons per day.
On September 1, 2026, the Wyoming City Council instituted a temporary watering ban and continues until further council action is taken. The watering ban is indefinite at this time and will remain in place until the Minnesota DNR determines that the drought warning phase has been lifted. This may continue into 2027. The watering ban applies to ALL properties utilizing city water only (includes residential, commercial, & HOAs).
Hand Watering
Residents may hand water their lawns. Hand-watering refers to the application of water with a hand-held hose or watering container. An individual must be physically holding the hose or container. Watering by hand cannot take place unattended. Water toys and sprinklers for children actively playing are permitted.
Properties With A Well
Please note that the watering ban applies only to the public water supply. While water conservation is vital, those who are on private wells and/or are practicing stormwater reuse and not on city water are not included in this mandatory ban.
