Community Information & Input Meeting - Flock Safety Agreement
When:The City of Wyoming is exploring an agreement with Flock Safety to install Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras to enhance public safety while protecting privacy. Before any final decision is made, we want to hear from you!
These cameras are intended to support public safety by using vehicle recognition technology to aid investigations, locate stolen vehicles, and deter criminal activity all while maintaining strict privacy protections and audit procedures. The system can generate real-time alerts for hot-listed vehicles (e.g., stolen, wanted, Amber/Silver Alerts) and notify the officers.
The ALPR system uses high-resolution cameras to capture license plates and vehicle characteristics (e.g. make, model, color, decals) and retains the data for 30 days. Only authorized law enforcement personnel can access the data for criminal investigative purposes. Officers must log in and document searches for auditability and accountability. The system does not use facial recognition and complies with local, state, and federal laws, including data privacy regulations. Residents’ personal identifying information is not collected or stored. The stored information can be accessed for criminal investigation purposes to gather evidence.
