Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education Training (ICPOET) Police Cadet

Application Deadline: Friday, June 28 at 4:30 pm

Highlights:

  • Temporary, full time position from 09/02/2024 to 03/31/2025 (30 weeks)
  • 2024 starting salary = $22.67/hour + benefits
  • Tuition expenses at Hennepin Technical College provided for current 2- and 4-year graduates to complete PPOE requirements to become a licensed peace officer

General Duties:

The ICPOET (Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education and Training) Police Cadet position is designed to benefit college graduates that are looking to pursue a career transition into law enforcement, but have not completed the required education/training to be an officer in Minnesota. No prior law enforcement training or experience required but must hold a two-or four-year regionally-accredited college degree in any study. ICPOET Police Cadets are required to complete the intensive comprehensive training curriculum, which will equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to be a licensed peace officer in the State of Minnesota and the City of Wyoming.

The ICPOET Cadet will earn full-time pay and benefits while attending full-time schooling for 22-weeks at Hennepin Technical College (10/14/2024-3/13/2025). ICPOET Police Cadets will perform non-sworn community service related job tasks prior to and after schooling, until hired as a probationary police officer with the City of Wyoming, for a total of approximately 30-weeks.

Candidates who complete the training will be hired as a probationary police officer with the Wyoming Police Department provided the conditions of the ICPOET Police Cadet Agreement are met.

Throughout the 30 weeks, a current WPD police officer will be appointed to meet with the ICPOET Police Cadet to integrate them into the department, address any concerns, and provide guidance as needed in a structured mentoring program.  A formal mentoring process will encourage inner-department engagement and academic progress, with the overall goal of promoting their success as a future Wyoming police officer.
